Tuition and Registration
When you register for lessons, you are registering for a course of study in a particular musical instrument. Tuition is not a per-lesson fee, but includes all aspects of instruction: the lesson time reserved for each student, the teacher’s preplanning for the individual student or buddy pair including repertoire research by the teacher; consultation with parents outside of studio time; and during the academic year, the cost of recitals and rehearsals.  Lesson books and repertoire will be the only separate expense for most students. Beginning flutists have extra initial expenses which can be read about under About Jumpstart! Flute Lessons.

Registering for the academic year or summer session of lessons means that you are committing to pay for the entire year or the summer session of lessons, regardless of whether you attend them or not.  (In summer session you are choosing how many lessons you want; you can always register for the minimum of four lessons/weeks and add lessons later.) Academic year payments are spread out monthly for the student’s convenience, and deciding to suspend lessons does not absolve the responsible party for paying for the remaining portion of the academic year.

Students registering after the beginning of the year will have their tuition and number of lessons prorated accordingly.

Makeup lesson policy

There are two scheduled makeup lesson weeks in the fall semester and three weeks in the spring semester. During those weeks any student who has missed a lesson may have a makeup lesson at their own regularly-scheduled time.  This is the only time during which makeup lessons are available unless another family cancels. Otherwise, there are two options for gaining benefit from missed lessons:
1) the student can have an online lesson at the regularly-scheduled time if the student is available and well enough to have a lesson (in the case that you cannot physically come to the lesson, for instance, if  someone else in your family is ill, or you are having transportation issues);
2) the student may record their lesson pieces at home and send the video to the teacher for comments and suggestions prior to the next lesson.
Inclement weather lessons will be done as online lessons at the regularly-scheduled time.
If the number of missed lessons exceeds the number of makeup lesson weeks, the student will lose those lessons. There is no tuition reduction/rebate for missed lessons.

No student may have more than two lessons per week.

If a student does not need a makeup lesson in fall semester, he/she may take a lesson during the makeup week and ‘bank’ it toward possibly missing a lesson in the spring semester.

General Studio Policies
Lessons will start and end promptly; no adjustments to tuition or lesson time will be made for tardiness.

All students will arrive a few minutes early in order to use the bathroom to wash their hands. Students will respect the teacher’s home/teaching space and not enter rooms other than the foyer, studio space, and bathroom; and will not touch or otherwise interact with items not belonging to the student.

Students must be picked up promptly at the end of their lesson. If students are not picked up on time more than one time, a late pickup fee will apply.

These policies are set with the goal of maximizing the student’s learning through consistent respect between teacher, student, and parents. Willful violation of any policy by student or parent will be grounds for dismissing the student from lessons.
